N-central leverages five elements which together accelerate the setup process and lower the cost of administration. These five elements are the Customer Wizard, Auto-Discovery, Service Templates, Folder Templates and Smart Folders.

Customer Wizard

The Customer Wizard allows technicians to quickly add and configure a new customer in one simple step that does the following:

1. Set up the new account
2. Configures the customer by creating the needed Smart Folders from the Folder Templates
   

Agent and Probe Deployment

N-central provides a powerful and flexible process for discovering, importing and configuring devices to be managed.

Discover and Import Devices Automatically: Deploy the probe software to a device on the customer network, and discover and import devices automatically.

• Install only one small software application
• The probe automatically discovers all IP-enabled devices on the network using WMI, SNMP, Intel vPro, TCP port scans, NetBIOS and other network protocols
• Discovered devices are (or can be) automatically imported based on their discovered device class
• Monitoring agents can be automatically pushed from the agent on import
• Basic monitoring is configured automatically based on the discovered elements of the device
• Covers Windows devices, network devices, printers and other servers and workstations

Deploy agents to Windows devices only: Leverage group policy, login scripts, third-party software distribution or manual installation to deploy agents to Windows devices:

• On install, the agents contact the server and create the managed device
• All asset information is automatically reported
• Basic monitoring is configured based on discovered asset information
• Remote control is automatically configured

Once auto-discovery and import is completed, N-central will import the devices to the appropriate Smart Folders. The Service Templates and Notification Profiles are then automatically applied. You will see the information from the customer site appear in the N-central dashboards in five minutes if you use the default setting for the scan interval.

Auto-Discovery: N-central uses both agent and probe technology to gather information and report properties from all IP-enabled devices on a network.

Service Templates: Define service parameters, such as configuration data and thresholds, that are to be mapped to a device. Changes made at the Service Organization (SO) level can be propagated to all devices that are mapped to the Service Template. A single Service Template can include multiple monitoring services such as disk, CPU, memory and printer toner level, and can be used with multiple device types.

Folder Templates: Associate folders with Dashboards, Service Templates and Notification. Defined at the SO level, Folder Templates can be used across multiple customers.

Smart Folders: Created from Folder Templates or manually, Smart Folders contain all of the devices within a customer network that satisfy the auto-assignment logic for device type, operating system and/or name (which can include a wildcard).
