Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is intended to provide portability, while protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of individuals' Private Health Information (PHI) that is collected, stored and transmitted by health care businesses. (For detailed definitions of the rule and its applicability, please refer to the HIPPA rules themselves). The Privacy Rule states the rights of individuals to understand and control how their PHI is used.
