If you\u2019ve spent time focused on your customers\u2019 security but missed an essential step in your own, this could easily happen to you. Your security is intertwined with your customers\u2019 security. If you are breached, they will be breached, too. Part of being a successful managed services provider (MSP) today means securing everything as best you can\u2014not only for your customers, but your own systems as well.<\/p>\n

So how can you ensure you\u2019ve got your house in order? Here are three tips to help get you thinking the right way:<\/p>\n

1\/ Practice the fundamentals<\/h3>\n

Good cyberhygiene is the essential foundation for effective security. Make sure you are doing the following:<\/p>\n

Patch management<\/b><\/p>\n

Patching is security 101. Once a vulnerability is discovered, it doesn\u2019t take long for cybercriminals to create an exploit. Keep your machines and software up-to-date with the latest critical patches, just as you would for your customers.<\/p>\n

Backup<\/b><\/p>\n

If you lose your own data or access to your own systems, you can\u2019t adequately support customers when they need it. The last thing you want is a customer facing a major technical issue who can\u2019t get support because you\u2019re dealing with a ransomware attack internally. Make sure to back up your own data with a good,\u00a0cloud-based backup solution<\/a>\u00a0to help ensure everything will be there when you need it.<\/p>\n

Endpoint protection<\/b><\/p>\n

Attackers are increasingly engaged in living-off-the-land attacks, or attacks that use internal system components or processes to cause damage. Managing user credentials across multiple customer environments can quickly become a sizeable undertaking. You must be able to grant or revoke access, expire passwords periodically, and demonstrate due diligence to auditors. These can easily become complex, time-consuming tasks.<\/p>\n

Make sure to remind users of the importance of creating unique, strong passwords for their accounts.
