I just recently conducted the bootcamp \u201cCove Data Protection: Automating Deployment,“ where I delved into the intricacies of this process. Introduction to Cove Data Protection<\/span><\/h2>\n

Cove Data Protection<\/a> is a cloud-first backup and disaster recovery solution tailored for MSPs. It offers streamlined data protection with automated backups, fast recovery, and scalable storage options. Designed to improve efficiency and reduce costs, Cove ensures data security and reliability across diverse environments. So wouldn\u2019t it be great if you could deploy it across all of your heterogenous Windows, Mac, and Linux devices in just a few minutes?<\/span><\/p>\n

Deployment Options<\/span><\/h2>\n

One of the key highlights of the unified installation flow for adding devices is standardizing the „Add Device Wizard.“ for all platforms and for both system managed<\/a> and self-managed<\/a> encryption keys. This process includes generating a site-specific installer, assigning a retention policy, and setting profile selections and schedules. We offer two options for managed encryption: a multi-use installer with auto-generated device names and self-managed encryption with either auto-generated or single-use device names.<\/span><\/p>\n

Command Line Examples<\/span><\/h2>\n

For those who prefer a command-line installation<\/a> or scripted push<\/a> from your RMM or automation package, we provide detailed examples and parameters for both automatic and manual deployments. These include options for silent installations, profile-related settings, and proxy configurations. A comprehensive table of command switches, syntax, and descriptions ensure that you have all the information needed to execute these commands effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

Data Encryption<\/span><\/h2>\n

Security is a top priority, and Cove Data Protection employs AES 256-bit encryption to safeguard your data. We offer passphrase management or optional private key encryption, ensuring that your data remains secure during transit and storage. It’s important to note that if the private self-managed encryption key is lost, it cannot be recovered, emphasizing the need for careful key management. The one exception to that would be incidents where it is identified that the encryption key is not known but you still have full, admin-level access to a functional, non-damaged, non-compromised device. In this scenario you could potentially do a one-way conversion from self-managed to system managed encryption<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scripted Deployment<\/span><\/h2>\n

Automation is at the heart of our deployment strategy. We provide resources and tools for scripted deployment, including links to the N‑able Developer Portal<\/a>, Automation Cookbook<\/a>, external GitHub repositories<\/a>, and Command Line Installer documentation<\/a>. Whether you’re using PowerShell, Bash, or AMP files, our script examples cover a wide range of deployment scenarios.<\/span><\/p>\n

We understand that deployment can sometimes encounter challenges.
