Often, many of them want to know what others are asking about automation, and what I recommend they do. I thought, \u201cWhy not put that in a blog?\u201d So this new series will be a review of some of the most common questions I\u2019m asked, and how I answer them.<\/p>\n<p><b>I\u2019m creating a Microsoft 365 automation policy. How do I link the username and password so I can supply it in N&#8209;central?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This is something we cover in our Automation Boot Camps. You can\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/pages.n-able.com\/boot-camps-registration.html?utm_medium=sales-generated&amp;utm_source=outbound-call&amp;utm_campaign=multi-glbl-en-dgc-q1_boot_camps_nerds-2020-01-28?promo=blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">register for the next one here<\/a>. Having said that, this one is really quite simple. You can do it two different ways, depending on whether you write your own PowerShell script within Automation Manager or use the native Microsoft 365 objects.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you\u2019re using your own PowerShell script:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start by creating a new policy<\/li>\n<li>Then click on the\u00a0<b>Inpu<\/b>t button to create input parameters:<br \/>\nYou will need to add two different parameter types: a string parameter for the username and email, and a password parameter for the password<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/2021\/01\/Automation%20Blog%20Post%2025%20-%20Common%20Requests%20I%20get%20-%20Episode%201-%20img1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"80%\" data-entity-type=\"\" data-entity-uuid=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Once you have created these two, you will need to add the\u00a0<b>Run PowerShell Script<\/b>\u00a0object to the policy<\/li>\n<li>Next, click on the\u00a0<b>Add<\/b>\u00a0button on the object, and you\u2019ll be given the option to create an input parameter for the script itself<br \/>\na. In here you will need to create two different parameters types: a string parameter for the username, and a password parameter for the password<br \/>\nb. As you create them, make sure to use a different name from the one you used in the policy input parameter to avoid any conflicts<br \/>\nc. Once you have created the parameters, the chain-link button allows you to link the parameters to the policy input<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/2021\/01\/Automation%20Blog%20Post%2025%20-%20Common%20Requests%20I%20get%20-%20Episode%201-%20img2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"80%\" data-entity-type=\"\" data-entity-uuid=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Once you\u2019ve done that for both parameters, you can click on the\u00a0<b>Script<\/b>\u00a0tab and insert your own script<\/li>\n<li>The policy will display the parameters so you can copy and paste them into your script and link them to any existing parameters<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve done this you are essentially good to go. The parameters will be requested in N&#8209;able<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0N&#8209;central<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, and they can be linked to a custom property, a cloud credential, or to device credentials.<\/p>\n<p>One thing to note is that to link to cloud credentials, you will need to use an actual cloud object like Get Microsoft 365 license information. As long as you have at least one object that is cloud-based, it will tell N&#8209;central this is a cloud-based policy, which will enable the cloud credential link.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to simply use the Automation Manager native objects instead of your own script, you will need to go through steps 1 and 2 above, then add all the Microsoft 365 objects you want, and use the chain-link button on those objects to link the username and password to the input parameters.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s all for this week.
