It\u2019s not that they\u2019re giving up on security altogether; they\u2019d just rather have someone else handle it for them.<\/p>\n<p>From an MSP perspective, that\u2019s a good thing. With 49% of US and UK businesses questioned planning to outsource security in the next 12 months, according to a recent\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"http:\/\/www.channelpronetwork.com\/news\/80-businesses-plan-change-their-it-security-management-next-12-months\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SolarWinds MSP survey,<\/a>\u00a0the time has never been better to become an MSSP (managed security services provider).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/2018\/02\/security%20management.jpg\" alt=\"security management.jpg\" width=\"411\" height=\"203\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"5\" data-entity-type=\"\" data-entity-uuid=\"\" \/>Security spending is on the rise. According to Gartner<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, the worldwide information security market will reach\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/newsroom\/id\/3784965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$86.4 billion<\/a>\u00a0by year\u2019s end, a 7% increase from 2016. The upward trend will carry on into 2019, when Gartner estimates the market will reach $93 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In its survey, SolarWinds MSP found two main reasons businesses want to outsource cybersecurity\u2014to cut costs and improve performance. But they are not going to hand over this critical function to just anyone. Service providers must prove they have the knowledge, organizational ability, technology, tools, and resources to handle clients\u2019 security needs. These break down into four primary areas: infrastructure, data security, risk and vulnerability management, and identity and access management.<\/p>\n<p>The survey revealed businesses are far more inclined to trust their security to an MSSP than to a generalist provider, with 70% of respondents saying they prefer an MSSP to an MSP.<\/p>\n<h3><b>MSP Opportunity<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/2018\/02\/projectedgrowth.jpg\" alt=\"projectedgrowth.jpg\" width=\"409\" height=\"202\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"5\" data-entity-type=\"\" data-entity-uuid=\"\" \/>Security is a huge opportunity for MSPs for various reasons. Clients are more inclined than ever to adopt IT service models since they don\u2019t have the necessary security expertise, and even if they wanted to hire security professionals, skilled candidates are very scarce.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, MSPs should consider launching an MSSP practice. Here are three solid reasons to do it sooner rather than later:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Profit Potential<\/strong>The projected increase in security spending bodes well for providers looking for a new revenue stream to increase profits. Security is going to remain an acute need for businesses for a long time to come, so if you have the skills and expertise to handle it, now is a good time to get serious about it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Value-Add<\/strong>As already noted, security is too complex for most businesses, especially SMBs. Providers that can solve this problem for clients, therefore, position themselves to a deliver much-needed value.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Loyalty<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/2018\/02\/loyatly.jpg\" alt=\"loyatly.jpg\" width=\"370\" height=\"183\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"5\" data-entity-type=\"\" data-entity-uuid=\"\" \/>Whenever you address a critical need for clients\u2014especially something they can\u2019t accomplish on their own\u2014you take a solid step toward indispensability, which translates into customer loyalty and long-term relationships.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In today\u2019s business environment, every MSP has to offer some level of security. It\u2019s not enough to simply run your client\u2019s environments; you must also protect them.
