We are happy to announce that an improved backup retention framework is now generally available for Cove Data Protection<\/a>. We made backup retention easier and more transparent\u2014minimizing time spent on management and reducing compliance risk.<\/span><\/p>\n

Long-term backup retention risk mitigation<\/span><\/h2>\n

While it is often necessary to keep backups longer than the standard 28 days, long-term backup retention management can be an unpleasant, time-consuming, manual task. As a result, many MSPs delay (or forego) retention management.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, keeping backups longer than required can significantly increase compliance risks. Regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA require organizations to delete personal data once it is no longer needed for its original purpose. Failing to do so can result in legal action, fines, and reputational damage.
\n<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Automatically expiring backups at the end of their mandated retention period dramatically reduces the risk of non-compliance. It ensures that human error (or procrastination) does not derail retention management. Crucially, it provides a reliable record of backup data handling practices if an MSP faces a compliance audit or legal action.<\/span><\/p>\n
