{"id":6667,"date":"2021-02-01T18:05:06","date_gmt":"2021-02-01T18:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/?p=6667"},"modified":"2024-05-14T16:28:08","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T15:28:08","slug":"edr-vs-auto-racing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/fr\/blog\/edr-vs-auto-racing","title":{"rendered":"What Do Auto Racing and EDR Have in Common?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Ballad of Ricky Bobby: Talladega Nights<\/em>\u00a0is a comedy movie that follows the fictional life of NASCAR race driver Ricky Bobby as he laps the competition and drops head-scratching bits of wisdom like \u201cIf you\u2019re not first, you\u2019re last.\u201d And while the sentiment may ring true for NASCAR, it could equally apply\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/products\/endpoint-detection-and-response?promo=blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to endpoint detection and response (EDR)<\/a>\u2014more on that in a minute.<\/p>\n<p>If you are not familiar with EDR, you can learn more about it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/blog\/what-is-edr-endpoint-detection-and-response\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. But if you are, then you know it\u2019s your best defense against a wide spectrum of cyberthreats. And because EDR goes beyond\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.n-able.com\/products\/n-central\/security?promo=blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traditional antivirus<\/a>\u00a0(AV) with a signatureless approach to definitions, it helps protect you against zero-day, fileless, and attacks designed to bypass AV.<\/p>\n<p>When choosing an EDR vendor, you have choices. But not all of them offer the same functionality, features, or strong protection against ransomware\u2014and that can make all the difference when you\u2019re tasked with protecting your customers.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s assume you use brand X\u2019s version of EDR and a cybercriminal launches a ransomware attack against your client. As you assess the situation, you need answers to these crucial questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What ransomware variant has infiltrated the network, and what was the attack vector?<\/li>\n<li>How did the attack unfold?<\/li>\n<li>What devices are impacted?<\/li>\n<li>Was the attack killed, quarantined, or remediated?<\/li>\n<li>What is the extent of the damage?<\/li>\n<li>Can the damage be reversed?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, preventing network intrusion by detecting, killing, and quarantining an attack is paramount\u2014you don\u2019t want customer data falling into a bad actor\u2019s hands or being encrypted and disrupting operations.
