How we keep N‑central updated and secure

Following the security issues in the MSP market over the past 24 months, our customers, who are understandably concerned, have been asking what we do to keep the N‑central® appliance (hosted or on-premises) updated and secure for them.

I will do my best in this short article to outline how our engineering team keeps up with security. Please note this is valid as of the time of writing, but can change at any point.

Our engineering team has taken a very proactive stance regarding security, and is following the below guidelines:

  • When releasing major N‑central releases, the engineering team will apply security updates to the OS package, web server, database server and other major components. This is done as part of the release cycle.
  • The QA team will also run a security scan and evaluate results.
  • Any critical or high priority fixes found prior to a release will be reviewed and included as needed.
  • In the event of a critical or a zero-day vulnerability to any N‑central component—or one of the third-party components we use—an emergency hotfix may be released for all supported versions. These hotfixes will only address a specific vulnerability in an effort to reduce the overall risk of regressions.

In short, we ensure that when we release product updates, they include any and all critical fixes to keep the N‑central appliance secure and up to date.

If you have concerns with the N‑central appliance and its security, please feel free to reach out to Lewis Pope, our Security Nerd ([email protected]), or Marc-Andre Tanguay, Head Automation Nerd ([email protected]).
