N‑able celebrates Pride Month with PRISM, our LGBTQIA+ community of interest

Meet PRISM, N‑able’s newest addition to our communities of interest (COIs).
What are our communities of interest you ask? They’re our N-ablite-led, company-supported interest groups that foster inclusivity and belonging. Through our COIs, N-ablites can come together to form a community and share experiences, stories, educational opportunities, and have open conversations to create connection and an inclusive environment for all. They are a critical piece of our Diversity, Equality, and Belonging philosophy. While similar to an employee resource group (ERG), what makes our COIs extra special is that when each group is founded, giving back to the broader community must be a core pillar for each group. We want to cultivate diversity, equality, and belonging at N‑able and out into the broader communities where we live and work.
PRISM stands for Pride, Resilience, Inclusivity, Success, and Mindfulness, and is N‑able’s COI for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. We are honored to partner with this group for Pride Month and beyond to uplift LGBTQIA+ voices, culture, and support the rights of this community.
While Pride is celebrated at various times around the world, we took this special moment at N‑able to mark the occasion with our inaugural Week of Belonging and observe the month with a week of education, motivation, and special guests.
We sat down with the leadership of our PRISM COI to talk about the inspiration behind Week of Belonging, what motivated them to launch a community of interest at N‑able, and the importance of community, belonging, and more.
Amanda Ray—Sr. Privacy Technology Counsel and PRISM Leadership Team Member
Q: Amanda, why is it important to create spaces of celebration for different communities represented within a company?
Amanda: The global nature of business and interconnectivity demands that we celebrate diverse communities. Over my 25-year career, I have seen how not merely supporting, but celebrating employees of all backgrounds, promotes enthusiasm, motivates employees, and encourages contribution of new and important ideas. Actively promoting a culture of belonging creates a happier workforce and allows companies to leverage a broader range of intellectual capital—in my view, this is absolutely essential for success in the modern world.
Shannon McNamara—Sr. Analyst, Web UX Design Team and PRISM Leadership Team Member
Q: Why did you decide to spearhead a COI and why is PRISM important to N‑able?
Shannon: I had the opportunity in early 2021 to help bring PRISM to life—it’s been a steady process of building the COI and bringing in more members (allies and queer folks alike!)—and it’s been immensely rewarding to find a hefty extra dose of purpose and passion in my work here at N‑able. I feel very strongly about creating a community and culture of support through PRISM. Current and ongoing events impact LGBTQIA+ folks and their families on a daily basis, and it feels more important than ever to be present, aware, and provide support and empathy within our community and beyond. This passion overcomes my usual introverted self to be a leader and help out where I can. It’s very much worth it!
Tim O’Brien—Chief Financial Officer and Executive Sponsor of PRISM
Q: Tim, how does PRISM help build a culture of belonging at N‑able?
Tim: PRISM is an important community of interest at N‑able that furthers our commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, equality, and belonging. PRISM contributes unique and imperative programming, education, and events for all N-ablites to take part in, which enhances our culture and N-ablite experience. It’s an honor to be the executive sponsor of this group and see first-hand the creativity, passion, and dedication the PRISM leaders and members have to build this community at N‑able.
Our PRISM celebration wouldn’t be complete without highlighting how they’re giving back to extend the positive impact of creating an inclusive community. In honor of Pride Month, PRISM made a donation to and became a proud supporter of the Catalyst Club for the It Gets Better Project, a global 501c3 nonprofit organization working to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) youth around the globe. PRSIM also encouraged all N-ablites around the world to use one (or both!) of the two fully paid VoluNteer Days that each N-ablite receives, to volunteer their time in support of a local LGBTQIA+ non-profit.
At N‑able, we know people have countless facets that make them unique—and we celebrate that. We’d like to take a moment to thank our PRISM leaders for creating an incredible Week of Belonging celebration as we continue building our culture of belonging. Happy Pride Month everyone!
