La vita in N-able

N‑able VoluNteer Spotlight: Emily Hirsch

When you find a company with employees who truly embody the spirit of giving, it’s something really special. At N‑able, our N-ablites help make our company unique and a great place to work by doing just that.

During this Season of Giving, we’re launching our VoluNteer Spotlights series to dive a bit deeper into the stories of our N-ablites and the causes they support that are near and dear to them. We have a strong commitment to giving to the communities where we live and work and giving is a core pillar of N‑able’s culture. Our N-ablites around the globe lend to this culture with their passion for service. We even provide N-ablites with two fully paid VoluNteer Days and we encourage them to use this time to give to their communities.

Meet Emily Hirsch. Emily is a People Advocate Associate in our Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Collaboration Hub.

We sat down with her to ask her a few questions about her experience as a volunteer with the Ottawa Food Bank, and what makes this organization special to her. Check out her story below!

Emily, tell us a bit about why you support the Ottawa Food Bank Farm/Community Harvest?

The Food Bank Farm/Community Harvest is a volunteer-powered farm in Ottawa, run by the Ottawa Food Bank. All produce grown on this six-acre farm goes directly to the Food Bank to supply people in need with fresh produce and supplement the non-perishable food at the Food Bank.

Food insecurity is a huge issue in our communities, and in recent years the need is growing. The Ottawa Food Bank is an important support system in our community and I love to get out and support them whenever I can!

What were your duties while volunteering?

I’ve volunteered four afternoons this past summer and it’s always been a different (and fun!) task. One afternoon, Lindsay Gilford [fellow N-ablite] and I were constructing a large hoop-house where tomatoes and peppers are grown in the summer, and on another day I helped harvest, clean, prepare, and box hundreds of red onions.

I plan to continue volunteering here, and will be organizing a series of group volunteer days for Ottawa N-ablites here next spring/summer!

Which N‑able core value do you feel like you’re able to display on your volunteer day and why?

N-rich Lives—I know that by volunteering here I’m having a direct impact and bettering my community.

What does giving mean to you as an N-ablite?

Giving my time and energy by volunteering is one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon. At the Community Harvest farm, I know that the food I’m helping to plant, grow, harvest, and process is going directly to those in need in my community, and that is an amazing feeling.

Thank you, Emily, for sharing your story with us, for your passion for service and showing us what it means to be an N-ablite! Stay tuned for more inspiring stories like Emily’s from our N-ablites across the globe! Or check out some of our our other VoluNteer Spotlights:
