We really like the reporting that Cove provides, We can easily show backup status to our customers, and they, in turn, can share the reports with auditors as needed.
Brian Ludwigson Senior Project Manager, SOHO Solutions
Challenge
Their team of 15 professionals supports more than 1,000 devices across 15 managed IT services clients, and Cove Data Protection, from N‑able, is an important part of the default package SOHO uses to support clients. They switched to Cove from StorageCraft for a variety of reasons. StorageCraft added unnecessary complexity with multiple backup tiers, including a local-first tier. Reporting required multiple dashboards, which weren’t always in sync, making it difficult to have
full visibility.

Reporting & Auditing
“We really like the reporting that Cove provides,” said Brian Ludwigson, SOHO’s senior project manager. “We can easily show backup status to our customers, and they, in turn, can share the reports with auditors as needed.”
Cloud-first architecture
Ludwigson also prefers Cove’s cloud-first architecture, with the option for secondary local backup storage, and the completeness of the product, protecting servers, Windows and MacOS workstations, and Microsoft 365 data, all from a single management console.
Microsoft 365 protection
Protection for Microsoft 365 is increasingly important to SOHO, and with the previous product, they had problems due to lack of granular restore. “Recovering more data than necessary filled up the users’ mailboxes, causing more problems and additional resource consumption,” Ludwigson added. “We find that the way Cove handles the Microsoft 365 backup, restore, and reporting is so much clearer and better to show to our clients.”
Automated testing & deployment
Switching to Cove also brought new capabilities, including an automated recovery testing option that saves time and improves service levels for SOHO’s customers. Making the change was easier than Ludwigson expected, with help from Cove’s automated mass deployment feature.
Reduced administrative time
In addition to these benefits, SOHO now spends less administrative time on backup than before Cove. Automated ticket creation, automated reports, and at-a-glance status charts make it nearly a “set it and forget it” solution.
